Classroom Rules and Consequences:
Inaddition to our school policies/procedures/rules, Jobworks Alternative High School also has classroom rules and consequences to maintain order on a daily basis.
Mutual Respect - Students and staff will act in a manner that will contribute to a safe, positive and constructive learning environment.
Students and staff will act with dignity and respect when interacting with each other. This includes student/student, student/staff, and staff/staff.
Staff may ask a student to leave for the class with an unexcused absence or may ask a student to leave the program due to disrespectful behavior.
Language - Swearing and inappropriate discussions are unacceptable.
Staff will provide a warning initially. If the language or discussions continue, staff may ask a student to leave for the class with an unexcused absence. If this behavior continues, staff may ask the student to leave the program.
Cell phones - Cell phones must be handed in at 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. They will be given back at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00p.m.
Staff will provide a warning if a student is found with a cell phone in class. If the cell phone rule continues to be violated, staff will ask a student to leave for the class with an unexcused absence. If this behavior continues, staff will ask the student to leave the program. Violations to this rule accumulate throughout the school year and do not reset per module.
iPods and MP3 Players - iPods or MP3 players may be brought in by students to use in class. They cannot connect to the Internet.
MP3 players are also available through the school for student use. If students would like to request a play list of school appropriate songs, they may submit their list to a staff member to be put on an MP3 player.
Computer/Laptop Usage - Personal laptops are not permitted. Jobworks computers and laptops are for school work only. Permission must be given by staff members to view other sites.
Laptops must be signed out.
When watching videos for class, students should be wearing headphones. Students should listen with sound at an appropriate volume, so no other students can hear their video. Students may use headphones provided by the school, or their own.
If students are using sites that are not for school purposes, the following consequences will apply:
  • 1st offence: Warning
  • 2nd offence: Computer privileges will be taken away for the day
  • 3rd offence: Computer privileges will be taken away for a period of one week
  • 4th offence: Computer privileges will be taken away for the remainder of the module
Students will be given either a verbal warning or sent a message on their computer if any of the above occurs. If the student refuses to turn in the computer or exit from an inappropriate site, their screen will be locked and the student will be sent home for the class with an unexcused absence.
Students must sign up for Edmodo (school-wide use) in order to watch videos and view sites for their school work.
Leaving the Classroom - Students must inform a staff member if they need to leave the classroom. Only one student is permitted to be out at a time. Students may not purchase drinks or snacks during class time. These will be confiscated, until break, if purchased. Staff may ask a student to leave the program if leaving the classroom frequently is a concern.
Breaks - There are two breaks in the morning and two in the afternoon (one indoor and one outdoor). All breaks are supervised by our EAs only. Students are not permitted to leave school property during breaks. An unexcused absence will be issued if this should happen. A second offence may result in removal from the program. Breaks are a good time for getting water, drinks, or snacks from the vending machine and visiting the bathroom.
Lunch - Students are permitted to leave school property during this time. The classroom will be supervised for those who wish to stay on site.
Group Work- Groupings will be determined by staff. Every member in the group will be expected to hand in their own material using the group's ideas. Papers cannot be identical. Please refer to the Plagiarism/Cheating rule.
Seating Plan - Staff may provide the students with a seating arrangement at any time.
Generally, if an individual is disruptive or not working well in their seat they will be given a warning. After the warning, a new spot will be assigned. If the new spot still does not work, the student may be asked to leave for the class with an unexcused absence.
Dress Code - Shoes must be worn at all times. Low cut and/or strapless tops/dresses, short shorts/skirts, revealing clothing and/or clothing with obscene or offensive graphics or language will not be permitted. Shorts/skirts must be long enough to reach one's finger tips when standing upright. Sagging will not be permitted and a belt must be worn if pants/shorts are too baggy. Undergarments must be worn.

Please refer to the Jobworks Alternative High School Dress Code Policy for further details.
***If a student is asked to leave, a parent/guardian will be notified immediately***
