JOBWORKS Employment Education Programs Inc. ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL (Hereinafter called “Jobworks Alternative High School”) DRESS CODE POLICY Policy Jobworks Alternative High School believes that dressing appropriately and respectfully for a school environment is extremely important. Clothing regulations consider safety, health and the maintenance of a school environment. Shoes must be worn at all times. Low cut and/or strapless tops/dresses, short shorts/skirts, revealing clothing and/or clothing with obscene or offensive graphics or language will not be permitted. Shorts/skirts must be long enough to reach one’s finger tips when standing upright. Sagging will not be permitted and a belt must be worn if pants/shorts are too baggy. Undergarments must be worn. Jobworks Alternative High School supports the collaboration with parents/guardians, and other community organizations to ensure that our learning environment is respectful, safe and comfortable. Guidelines To support our dress code policy Jobworks Alternative High School will:  Follow discipline protocols to address dress code infractions  Provide Jobworks t-shirts when necessary  Refer to outside agencies for support and information  Work with parents/guardians  Use good judgment when dealing with incidences related to the dress code. Staff has the right, under the Manitoba Public School’s Act, to act as a wise and judicious parent and will ensure that all students are provided equal opportunity to learn in a respectful, safe and non-threatening environment Procedures The Jobworks Alternative High School Dress Code Policy promotes appropriate and respectful attire to ensure safety, health and maintenance of the school environment. The Dress Code Policy applies to students while on property, while traveling to and from school events, or during school activities offsite. Jobworks Alternative High School will respond in the following manner to students who violate the Dress Code Policy for the first time:  Ask the student to leave the class for an Informal Interview with school staff and/or administrator(s)/appropriate personnel to discuss dress code and to provide the student with a Jobworks t-shirt to wear for the day  Contact the parent(s)/guardian(s) In addition to the above, Jobworks Alternative High School may also respond in the following manner to students who violate the Dress Code Policy for the first time:  Ask the student to leave for the remainder of the class. This will result in an unexcused absence  Arrange a Formal Interview with school staff and/or administrator(s)/appropriate personnel, the student and the parent(s)/guardian(s) to discuss the situation and consequences. The student will not be permitted to return until the Formal Interview has taken place  Refer the student to attend an external program and/or attend counseling  Invoke any other consequences/recommendations deemed appropriate by Jobworks Alternative High School staff and/or administration Jobworks Alternative High School will respond in the following manner to students who violate the Dress Code Policy a second time:  Ask the student to leave the class for an Informal Interview with school staff and/or administrator(s)/appropriate personnel to discuss dress code  Ask the student to leave for the remainder of the class. This will result in an unexcused absence. If the student is required to return for another class that day, the student must return in appropriate attire or may choose to wear a Jobworks t-shirt  Contact the parent(s)/guardian(s) In addition to the above, Jobworks Alternative High School may also respond in the following manner to students who violate the Dress Code Policy a second time:  Arrange a Formal Interview with school staff and/or administrator(s)/appropriate personnel, the student and the parent(s)/guardian(s) to discuss the situation and consequences. The student will not be permitted to return until the Formal Interview has taken place  Refer the student to attend an external program and/or attend counseling  Invoke any other consequences/recommendations deemed appropriate by Jobworks Alternative High School staff and/or administration Jobworks Alternative High School will respond in the following manner to students who violate the Dress Code Policy a third time:  Ask the student to leave the class for an Informal Interview with school staff and/or administrator(s)/appropriate personnel to discuss dress code  Suspend the student for a full day. This will result in two unexcused absences. Conditions of return are determined by Jobworks Alternative High School staff and/or administration  Contact the parent(s)/guardian(s) In addition to the above, Jobworks Alternative High School may also respond in the following manner to students who violate the Dress Code Policy a third time:  Arrange a Formal Interview with school staff and/or administrator(s)/appropriate personnel, the student and the parent(s)/guardian(s) to discuss the situation and consequences. The student will not be permitted to return until the Formal Interview has taken place  Refer the student to attend an external program and/or attend counseling  Invoke any other consequences/recommendations deemed appropriate by Jobworks Alternative High School staff and/or administration ***Students who refuse to discuss the situation or violate the policy a fourth time will be asked to leave the program immediately***
